Tortorella is certainly higher in the organizational depth chart than Hayes, so it all just depends if the coach has enough power to persuade GM Chuck Fletcher to pull the trigger and buy Hayes out. This is an operatic drama just waiting to happen. I can’t help but wonder if that is what the future is here,” Friedman added. “John Tortorella is in year one of how many? If this is a marriage that is not going to work, then maybe this is the solution where he gets bought out and starts somewhere else. We’re just assuming that it would be the first time ever that an NHL team bought out their leading scorer, but I guess weirder things have happened.Įspecially if you think of the juicy context of professional relationships that might just not end up working. That is a lengthy penalty to get rid of a player that might just lead the entire team in points at the end of the season. I’m not saying that’s the likely outcome, but, at the. If the Flyers go ahead and buy out the three years remaining on Hayes’s contract that comes at a regular cap hit of $7.14 million, the breakdown of cap hits will look like this: My sense is that part of Vancouver’s thought process includes the possibility of re-signing JT Miller, not trading him. “I have to tell you,” Friedman continued, “I can’t help but look at this contract and say ‘Is this going to be a buyout at the end of the year?’” That means, a potential buyout is a whole lot easier and less messy with most of the remaining years in straight salary. The reporter mentioned that the salary bonuses laid out in his contract are almost entirely paid out - with just $1.25 million bonuses due at the start of the 2024-26 season. How does this help the team?’ And I’m sure he’s like any other player and does not want to be benched.”įriedman then decided to get into the muck of speculating what this organization is going to do next with some context clues. I’m sure in Tortorella’s eyes, he’s sitting there and saying ‘I warned you, I warned you, and it didn’t get better.’ And I’m sure Hayes is saying ‘Look, I’m scoring. “But I still think when you look at it when the guy is on pace for 76 points and leading your team in scoring - there’s something about that happening that throws you for a loop. So I don’t think this comes as an enormous surprise to anyone around the organization, and possibly not even Hayes himself. I’ve heard that Tortorella has told Hayes before that he doesn’t like the way that he plays without the puck all the time, and that they were headed in this direction if this didn’t get better. Now, I’ve heard that this has been brewing. “As for Kevin Hayes,” Friedman began, “this is a guy on pace for 76 points. On Monday morning’s edition of the “32 Thoughts” podcast, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman unraveled the reason why Hayes was a healthy scratch and began speculating about what the Flyers might end up doing with Kevin Hayes and the three years remaining on his contract next summer. But apparently, beyond the games, there has been a butting of heads between the coach and the player. Jay’s retirement plans include moving back home to spend quality time with family, checking off interests on a long-curated life map, traveling with his wife, and pursuing new studies and passion points. As an active member on nearly 15 different boards, Jay will continue his commitment to giving back and will impart his expertise across several different industries ranging from Florida State University’s Foundation Board of Trustees to Florida State University Dedman School of Hospitality to the SabesWings Charity to Sonoma State University’s Wine Institute.John Tortorella decided to shock mostly everyone paying attention to the Philadelphia Flyers this season by sitting their leading scorer, Kevin Hayes, on Saturday against the New York Rangers.Īfter a couple grueling seasons, it appeared that Hayes has finally re-found himself and his game on a not-so-good Flyers team. Jay is a proud alumnus of Florida State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing, and Jay attended the University of the Incarnate Word for his Master’s in Business. Gallo Winery’s Management Training program in 1987 in Florida, followed by a move to Texas with Gallo in 1990. Prior to this role, Jay began his career in E. While his contributions have undoubtedly made a mark on this company, I will most value the legacy of leadership that he will leave behind.” “His ability to foster strong relationships has been instrumental in driving collaboration and delivering exceptional results. “Throughout his tenure, Jay has been an inspiring leader, setting a high standard for his peers,” said Bob Hendrickson, Chief Operating Officer. Good range test results: You should be able to connect to a well-placed mesh kit from anywhere in your house. In our tests, network speed-or throughput-varies from “This YouTube video will never finish loading” to “You can download a video game in an instant.” Generally, we looked for the mesh kits that performed above average, and we dismissed the slower routers. Good speed test results: Speed claims on the box don’t mean much in the real world. You should be able to get your home on the internet in less than half an hour with a mesh network. Ease of setup and administration: Setting up a new network is often hard, but it doesn’t need to be.Wi-Fi 5 laptops, phones, and other devices will continue to dominate your home for the next few years, and you can save some money while you take care of existing needs. While we think this year’s new standards of Wi-Fi 6 or 6E are the best options for most people (both our main and upgrade picks are Wi-Fi 6 mesh systems), based on our tests and research, we continue to recommend a Wi-Fi 5 (aka 802.11ac) mesh system as our budget alternative. Most people, however, don’t need mesh Wi-Fi, and if you live in an average home or apartment, a regular router is just fine. Mesh-networking systems take the weight off just one router, instead spreading multiple access points around your house to improve the range and performance of your Wi-Fi.Īfter spending hundreds of hours evaluating and testing 64 Wi-Fi mesh-networking kits in home and lab environments over the past four years, we’re confident that the Eero 6 system is the best mesh router for most people who need one. Wi-Fi that sucks can be more frustrating than no Wi-Fi at all, and the culprit in many cases is one router trying to cover too much house. How long does it take to gain my private pilot license?.I believe that is the biggest advantage to training under FAA Part 141. While we cannot change the pilot shortage, we can assure that if an instructor leaves, that it does not impact your flight training to the extent that you have to demonstrate all tasks again to your new instructor prior to moving forward. We have had many students arrive from other schools for our finish-up program that have said that they started and then had to restart multiple times because their instructor left. In a FAA Part 141 environment, the school retains your flight records and so your flight training is seamless. Midway through your flight training, if your instructor leaves, your next instructor will be required to review all your skills before he endorses your logbook for your solo, your private pilot flight test and all flight endorsements. Unfortunately, in a FAA Part 61 program, your entire flight training record is contained in your logbook, endorsed by your instructor. And so it is not unusual for a student to transition through multiple instructors as they train. In today’s environment, flight instructors are moving quickly to careers in aviation. There is another even bigger advantage to a FAA Part 141 program. In every step of your flight training, you will know exactly where you are, every step of the way. By maintaining the high standards of FAA Part 141, you are receiving flight training based upon an approved, curriculum based program. That can represent as much as $13,500.00 in actual savings. Under FAA Part 61, minimum time to earn your Commercial Rating is 250 hours.īy training in a FAA Part 141 environment a student can save at least 60 hours of flight training to earn their commercial certificate. Under FAA Part 141 minimum flight time to earn your Commercial Rating is 190 hours. Therefore, there is a major advantage in time required to earn your instrument rating under FAA Part 141. Under FAA Part 141, there is no such requirement. Additionally, under FAA Part 61, students are required to have 50 hours of Cross Country Flight Time prior to receiving their Instrument rating.Under FAA Part 141, minimum flight hours to earn your Instrument Rating is 35 hours instead of 40 hours under FAA Part 61.Under FAA Part 141, minimum flight time to earn your Private Pilots License is 35 hours instead of 40 hours for FAA Part 61.You may ask what are the advantages to you as a flight student. Today, just a small fraction of all United States flight schools are FAA Part 141 approved. Thus was born the FAA Part 141 Flight School. The schools proposed that if they could demonstrate that they maintained a facility that met strict FAA standards, a set curriculum that was FAA approved, retained meticulous records of all student flight and ground lessons, available at all times to FAA inspection, maintained aircraft that met more stringent oversight, and employed teaching techniques and personnel approved by the FAA, that they could reduce the number of required training hours. Many years ago, a group of very large, successful flight schools approached the FAA with the concept of a second set of regulations. All Flight Schools and all flight instructors initially follow the requirements and train to the requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations FAA Part 61. Here is a check list to take along when shopping for sunscreen that will protect both your skin and the reefs, as well as a list of sun protection considered reef safe. These brands include Coppertone, Hawaiian Tropic and Banana Boat, to name a few. Most popular sunscreen brands are known to contain these dangerous chemicals. These now banned chemicals are believed to be one of the contributing factors to the coral reef destruction. According to the National Park Service, 14,000 tons of sunscreen enter coral reefs every year. When coral bleaches, it is not dead, but under significant stress and subject to increased mortality levels. Oxybenzone and octinoxate are two ingredients believed to contribute to coral bleaching. Besides, mineral sunscreens are ideal for oily and sensitive skin as they won’t clog your pores. Mineral sunscreens are just as effective as chemical sunscreens. They’re sometimes called physical sunscreens because they use ingredients like zinc oxide to physically block the harmful UVA and UVB radiation. You may have heard of mineral sunscreens. About this Guide CAUTIONPRODUCT DAMAGE: If the precaution is not taken, the product could be damaged. Because the top graduates at nearly any big HS will have close to perfect HS transcripts: plus they took all of the harder classes (schools normally have a higher weighted average for advanced classes). This assumes that PHX HS is 10th-12th grade. I bet the students that bailed in the 10th grade are pointing to an outlier or two valedictorian examples. I think it would be fair to assume a lot of students in the last quartile are simply above average students that survived. Both children got full ride academic scholarships.Īs you mentioned, considering 50% get "cut" from the 6th to the 10th grade, many students were not able to handle to pace. At BASIS they may rank 25th out of 75 students, but go over to their local high school and they just became the class valedictorian.īASIS is not for everyone, but as an option for our family it worked out great. What my child told me is that a quite a few students will stay at BASIS until 10th grade and then with an eye to class rankings transfer to their neighborhood high school. Out of 50 students in my child's graduating class in May they had one appointment to the Naval Academy, 3 to actual Ivy League schools, another 10-12 to places like Stanford, U of Chicago and everyone else got into honors programs at ASU, U of A, NAU or California schools. If they like a challenge, BASIS is a good school and when they say that 20% of their grads get into elite colleges they are accurate. My child told me that over 50% of the classmates he had in 6th grade were gone by 10th grade. Other charters to look at would be Great Hearts Academies, Chandler Prep or one of the CTAs.īASIS parent here - the rumors about churn and burn are true. It really is going to come down to how your child learns. If extra curricular activities/programs are of interest to your student, I would take a close look at those. Personally, we felt that a kid is only a kid once and putting that kind of pressure on them at an early age just didn't seem worth it. Parents I know with students at BASIS spend a LOT of their time with tutors and supplementing class time to help their student keep up. Basically if your student is not keeping up with their program, they will drop them. BASIS is a charter.so they can pick and choose whom they let in (they have a lottery for admissions) by weeding out those that do not fit their style of teaching. This is a whole other subject but I am just glad that our kids are finally out of that school.ĬUSD also has the Accelerated Jr High program at Basha HS and some pretty good Honors/AP/IB programs in High School.īASIS? Some people love it, others do not.again, this is going to rely on your child's preferred method of learning. This may have changed.I know our home elementary has declined over the past few years as it focuses primarily on their Mandarin program and the students NOT in that program feel sidelined. That being said.CATS was hit and miss for a lot of students, some excelled in the program, others came back to regular school as (at the time) our home elementary was almost/just as good as their program without the added hassle. They used to have CATS programs at most of the elementary schools but they were consolidated into KGA a few years ago.
